Hot off the Cannes red carpet

The Cannes International Film Festival is one of the most prestigious and most publicised film festivals in the world. Attendees flock to the South Of France every year to preview new films of all genres, including documentaries, from around the world. At this years festival, day after day celebrities have been sashaying up and down that coveted red carpet outside the Palais des Festivals et des Congres looking impeccable and the fashion displayed yesterday was no different.

Less is always more was proved true to the tee by actress Emma Stone as she put on a brave face and walked the red carpet looking elegantly simple. She recently spoke out about her “hard and emotional” break up with Spiderman star Andrew Garfield. The Crazy Stupid Love actress put aside heartbreak for the evening and sported old school Hollywood glamour in a swept up hair style, red lips and a fitted simple white dress. Diane Kruger also went the simplistic route and being the fashionista she is, she pulled it off effortlessly. The German actress and model showed off her enviable pins in a pale blue mini-dress embellished with a sequin rose paired with strappy nude sandals. Appearing alone without her handsome beau Joshua Jackson – who she’s been dating since 2006 – the star attended the screening of her latest film Maryland. Another actress in a bright eye catching ensemble was Mindy Kaling. The Mindy Project actress looked stunning in a clashing pink and purple two piece dress, highlighting her gorgeous picture perfect skin. She wore her hair to the side and opted for natural make-up, she add a touch of glamour to her fun look by finishing off the outfit with silver chunky earrings and not forgetting that ‘Angelina Jolie’ thigh high slit.

Different patterns and prints were on full display at the festival as well this year. Naomi Watts was nothing but smiles at the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival despite her new film not exactly winning the crowds over. The Sea of Trees was screened to a chorus of boos during two press showings, but her outfit was a different story, looking grand in the beautiful, sleeveless, tribal-print knee-length dress, which flared out at the hips. Our very own Terry Pheto who rose to stardom from her role in the South African Oscar winning film Tsotsi, was also in attendance to watch the screening of her movie Ayanda, which she co produced. She looked breath-taking in her proudly african mix print dress and matching headscarf by local designer Khosi Nkosi. Beautiful commemoration to Africa month. Poppy Delevinge rocked Cannes Film Festival in a plunging patterned sheer green gown which showcased her slender figure. The 29-year-old beauty looked amazing in the embroidered floor length number which featured a very low neckline, and complemented her dress by wearing her blonde hair up in an elaborate braided style.

The colour black will always be a winner on the red carpet, regardless of how its incorporated into an outfit. Amy Poehler put on a polished display as she showcased her newly-dyed red hair yesterday at 68th annual Cannes Film Festival. The comedian highlighted her brand new look in a monochrome mini dress, black high heels and kept her make-up to a minimum to compliment her fair complexion. Actress Michelle Rodriguez looked stunning as she walked the red carpet in a classic black number. The Fast and the Furious actress opted for a black lacy floor length dress with small cut-outs designed onto the side of the dress, showing a little bit of flesh. The star went for a low-maintenance hair style and fresh golden smokey eye make-up to compliment her sultry outfit. Lily Donaldson brought the biggest beauty trend of the summer to Cannes as she walked the Film Festival’s red carpet. The model looked her usual flawless self, showing off her tiny frame in a silver and black floor length dress with cross-over back spaghetti straps. Adding to the look, the 28-year-old beauty ticked off the must-do beauty trend in princess nude lips, teamed up with dewy skin and a smokey eye.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini stole the show on her way into a screening of The Irrational Man at Cannes Film Festival. The former X Factor judge walked the red carpet in a backless, pale pink elegant dress which included a high slit, lace detail and a small train. Cannes no doubt holds a special place in Cheryl’s heart, as it was at last year’s festival when she first met the man she’d go on to marry, Jean- Bernard Fernandez-Versini.

Below are a few of our favourite looks from the festival.
