Help! I think my hormones are affecting my skin

Another breakout? And are those red patches we spot? What about that fuzzy hair on my cheeks? Yes, despite using an arsenal of products, hormones can still wreak havoc on your skin! So besides hiding inside the house or putting a bag over our heads, how can you camouflage zits, unwanted hair and ruddy complexions? We asked Maybelline New York makeup pro Linda O’Connell for her top tips.

Beat the breakout

So, you can still see that zit even after you’ve applied your foundation? “It’s time to reach for that concealer,” says Linda. “The best technique is to dab or pat concealer on the problem area, not to swipe or blend, as this will only expose the area over and over. Then finish with a light dusting of loose powder. The powder will set the concealer and keep make-up in place.”

Calm the redness

Go green – literally! “Use a green colour corrector to knock-back the red colour in your skin tone,” says Linda. “Always apply your corrector before you apply a foundation, otherwise you’ll end up looking ‘ill’,” explains Linda.

Laser it

“Laser is a good option if you’re worried about ‘peach fuzz’ on your hairline, cheeks, chin or upper lip. I know a few beauty models who have opted for this route,” says Linda. Can’t afford laser? “Bleaching can also be effective, but it depends on the amount of hair and your skin tone,” explains Linda. And to minimize facial hair with makeup? “Work in downward strokes (and not up and down blending motions) when applying foundation,” advises Linda. And whatever you do, avoid powder! It makes facial hair more evident.
