Review: A Sudden Light by Garth Stein

Trevor is on a mission. He wants to save his parents’ marriage, but through this seemingly harmless venture, he uncovers a  history of family secrets that will change everything.Trevor’s parents are bankrupt and to prevent the family from falling deeper into a pit of debt, Trevor’s father plans to sell the family mansion Riddell House and to split the profits so that everyone can go on to live a happy, debt-free life.

But when Trevor’s father takes him to Riddell House and Trevor explores the old, unkept mansion, he discovers that there are secret passages and rooms and diaries, rich with history. He also comes across a ghost, Benjamin Riddell. And Benjamin completely opposes the plans of the younger Riddells.Ultimately, it is Trevor’s willingness to face his family’s dark past, which spans generations, that will reveal the key to the Riddells’ future.

A Sudden Light by Garth Stein is not your typical family drama – it’s also a ghost story and an emotional journey that is dark, yet beautiful.
