Carrie Underwood is perhaps best known for her beautiful voice, and now the singer has signed on to be an official face of the Almay beauty brand. We caught up with her to talk about her beauty regime, her must-have products and her favourite red carpet moments.
GLAMOUR: How do you keep your skin looking radiant (even after a long-haul flight)?
Carrie: I think it’s really important to try and take care of yourself as best as you can when you’re traveling. Eating things that are good for you and drinking tons of water is something I think is really important as a base. Having great makeup like Almay is also important, of course!
GLAMOUR: What are your three skincare essentials?
Carrie: For skincare, I think drinking tons of water is key. I love putting coconut oil on my face and skin – it’s easy to travel with. SPF is really important; I actually don’t have a lot of extra room in my bag for SPF so I think it’s really great that Almay puts SPF in their Smart Shade Makeup. It definitely cuts out a step for me that I don’t have time to do.
GLAMOUR: Are there any beauty secrets you’ve learned from makeup pros?
Carrie: I just love to watch other people do my makeup. I love doing my makeup. I do my own hair and makeup when I go on tour, but I love just sitting back and seeing the different things they use and different brushes. When they’re applying my makeup differently than I had before or a different order, maybe starting me out with a different moisturiser on my face. I’m kind of all about seeing what people do. I’m a little sponge when it comes to trying to learn things from other people.
GLAMOUR: What is the one makeup product you simply can’t live without? Why?
Carrie: I’m definitely an eye makeup kind of girl. One of the things I love about Almay is they make it so easy with the Intense i-Color palettes, it’s made for me! There’s no guesswork or fumbling around trying to find different things, it’s all right there. If I had to do one thing and run out the door it would be my eyes for sure.
GLAMOUR: Who is your beauty icon?
Carrie: It’s hard to pick one beauty icon but I think the people that I look to are my friends – they’re normal women. I love seeing their natural looks and seeing the new things that they’re coming up with and playing with.
GLAMOUR: What is your favourite summer beauty trend?
Carrie: I love bronzer! That’s definitely something I’m in love with- it just feels like summer when you’re putting bronzer on your face
GLAMOUR: What’s your favourite red carpet hairstyle?
Carrie: I like to keep my hair down on the red carpet. I’m not a huge updo kind of girl. I like my hair to be down, wavy, and comfortable. I don’t really like things that are too complicated, just classic.
GLAMOUR: Do you have a signature scent? What does the smell remind you of?
Carrie: I don’t think I have a signature scent, it depends on what I’m feeling or my mood. It depends if it’s date night, hanging out with my girlfriends, or just hanging out at home. I always put some sort of good smell on because I love putting on a scarf and being able to smell perfume from the last time I wore it. I’m always wearing something.
GLAMOUR: What is your no.1 beauty rule?
Carrie: I don’t think I have any beauty rules, it’s all about you and playing and doing what makes you feel good. Maybe that’s my rule! Do what makes you feel good about you, and that’s why you should wear makeup and take care of your skin. Don’t do it for anybody else, it’s all about making you feel beautiful and every woman should feel beautiful.
GLAMOUR: What is inspiring you at the moment?
Carrie: I’m loving fall. I think there’s something about the transition from hot weather into cold weather that makes me feel cozy. Seeing comfy sweaters, and finding warm comfort foods to make, and fall beauty trends.
