Dropping a few centimetres for your wedding is one thing, but tugging on your tresses for a few more is not only painful, but also discouraging. Jacqui Corris, the bridal specialist at Fidelia, a Cape Townian salon, says that they are constantly hearing brides beg for more body, more length, more volume – more hair! Want extensions? Here’s what to do.
Define your needs
Ask yourself whether you want a long term change or whether the look is specifically for your wedding day. Bonded extensions will last up to five months before your next visit to the salon, but clip in extensions give you the freedom to remove and reattach at several occasions.
Think ahead
Don’t make the impulsive decision of having bonded extensions attached on the morning of your wedding. The process can take hours and even longer if you want them colour treated to match your hair.
Quality matters
Never get synthetic extensions! They are too difficult to style and can melt (yikes!) Ask for 100% Remi hair where available.
Get a quote
Hair extensions, whether bonded or clip-in, can be quite pricey, ranging from R3000-R15 000 depending on the brand, salon, length and amount of inserts. It’s always a good idea to request quotes from different salons and have a professional stylist suggest how many inserts you will need to get the look you want.
Care for your hair
As Remi hair is real hair you can treat it like your own. Shampoo and condition bonded extensions twice a week and clip ins after every third use. Moisturising products are essential if you style your hair a lot and avoid salty swims as it will dry the hair out and make them brittle. With bonded extensions the bonds have to be dried off well after every wash and be kept as dry as possible at all times.
