Candice Swanepoel launches her own denim collection

Candice Swanepoel’s new capsule denim collection for Mother was inspired by nineties supermodel Cindy Crawford.

The 26-year-old model has designed a capsule collection for the Los Angeles-based brand and credited the iconic ’90s supermodel’s off-duty look, as well as Kate Moss and actress Drew Barrymore’s style for inspiring the range. She said: “I first had a look at the denim I had in my closet, what were my absolute favourites and what I would change to make them perfect. Most of what I found were old Levi’s and denim that I had worn in over the years. I was inspired by the iconic supermodels of the Nineties and their off-duty denim chic style.

“I did look at denim through many different time periods. I loved the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties. There is an old Pepsi campaign with Cindy Crawford, which inspired me as well as Kate Moss, and Drew Barrymore in the Nineties, and then some came from my own street style.”

The blonde beauty believes her modelling experience gave her an advantage when it came to designing the line.

She said: “I’m lucky that I’ve had amazing training in all the years of modelling. I’ve probably tried on a million pairs of jeans. Models really get to see what works and what doesn’t.”

Candice has also created the line for a good cause as it will benefit African-based charity Mothers2mothers – an organisation dedicated to eradicating paediatric HIV.

The South African-born model added she is pleased she could “help in some way”.

She explained to Vogue.co.uk: “I got to put so much of myself into it, which was rewarding but what made it more so is that I also got to help a very noble cause in South Africa that is dedicated to eradicating paediatric HIV.

“I chose this incredible charity Mothers2mothers, a non-profit organisation based out of South Africa that works to prevent the transition of HIV from mothers to their babies.

“When I do something for charity I like it to also help the people in my country. It’s as special to me as it is the people we can save.”

The line includes denim jeans and shorts in a variety of washes and fits, and is available to buy from www.motherdenim.com.
