Joan Rivers leaves her fortune to her family

Legendary comic Joan Rivers has left behind a personal fortune worth R1,6 billion, much of which comes from her QVC investment.

The legendary comedienne, who died last week after suffering a cardiac arrest, amassed much of her personal wealth through her investment in the QVC shopping channel.

Although she was most famous for her outspoken on-stage performances, Rivers is said to have earned R446 million a year after her company turned over more than R11 billion in the last 24 years, according to reports in the US. What’s more, Rivers also owned a R393 million luxury apartment in Manhattan, New York City.

Prior to her passing, Rivers stated her intention to leave her estate to her daughter Melissa, 46.

However, friends of the star say that she has also taken care of her grandson Cooper, 13, and her dogs.

Meanwhile, Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic claimed recently that Rivers’ funeral was “exactly what she would have wanted.”

The 40-year-old star said the private service at Temple Emanu-El in New York City on Sunday was “really beautiful.”

She explained: “Joan said in her book [ I Hate Everyone…Starting With Me] that she would want lights, camera, action and people lined up outside and paparazzi, and she got it.”
