George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin’s white wedding

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin chose a simple white colour theme for their wedding, which took place at the luxurious Aman Canal Grande resort in Venice this weekend.

The 53-year-old actor and his human rights lawyer bride, 36, said ‘I do’ at the luxury Aman Canal Grande resort in Venice on Saturday night in front of around 100 guests including U2 singer Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, Matt Damon and his wife Luciana, Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber, Emily Blunt and Bill Murray.

E! News reports that the couple tied the knot on a podium that was placed in front of a large wall of white candles. The venue had been decorated with white roses, lilies and carnations and there was a multitude of hand-crafted candles.

Guests reportedly sipped on numerous bottles of champagne and red wine and the party continued past midnight, with the couple and their guests celebrating to a background of disco and jazz music. The guests were greeted at the venue by staff, who were wearing traditional venetian gondolier outfits, including straw boater hats and white shirts.

As the celebrities arrived, there were loud cheers from the crowds of fans waiting outside, especially for Bono.

The marriage between the happy couple was confirmed in a statement. A representative for the actor wrote: “George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin were married today in a private ceremony in Venice, Italy.”

Details have also emerged how George spent his last night as a bachelor, before marrying Amal. The actor dined with friends at pricey Da Ivo on Friday night and the restaurant’s staff said George and his six guests drank two bottles of Casamigos, his own-brand tequila, before enjoying a third of a magnum of Sassicaia, a Tuscan red wine which is worth R4 600 a bottle.

George and his guests ate a dinner of stuffed courgette flowers, pasta with truffles before tucking into figs, crab and lobster.

The restaurant’s chef Luciana Gambardella told The Independent on Sunday newspaper: “He’s a wonderful person. And [what] moved me the most was how he made a point of going up to every person working in the restaurant to thank them after the meal.”
