Celeb Book List: Masego ‘Maps’ Maponyane

He’s a model, a GQ Best-Dressed Man, an actor – and a reader, too! Here, Masego Maponyane, better known to friends and fans as ‘Maps’, tells us what’s on his reading list.

What was your favourite childhood book and why?

I’m going to have to be that guy and point out more than one because a few bring back fond memories: James and the Giant Peach, Winnie the Pooh, The Little Prince, and The BFG (Big Friendly Giant). The risks, the adventure, imagination and the lessons learnt.

Which books do you think shouldn’t have been made into movies and why?

Most, because the length of the book does not translate in the length of the movie and it will almost always be a shortened director’s interpretation of events, and the words one reads in a book takes you on a unique individual experience.

Read about a few movie adaptations that got it right, here.

What was the last book that you read? Tell us about it.

Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. It looks at the secrets and stories of success at a high level and examines the contributing factors from an enlightening point of view. I’ve read it a couple times.

Where do you like to read best?

In bed at home after a long day, or at a café on a Sunday.

What do you use as a bookmark?

Any piece of paper in sight, I’m really bad at keeping one constant bookmark.

What are you reading now or what do you plan on tackling next?

I just started reading Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho. Next I plan on tackling Band Aid for a Broken Leg by Damian Brown.
