How to choose the right mascara

It feels like there’s a new mascara is launched everyday – each one promising us lashes that would make Betty Boop blush! So how do you know what will work best for you? We’ve simplified it down to the best brush shape for each need:

You want: volume

You need: A big, fat brush as it will give all-over coverage with a dramatic result. The best wands for volume are ones with regular bristles, rather than plastic ones. Try Rimmel Scandal’Eyes Mascara (R89.95).

You want: definition

You need: A small, plastic or normal wand with tightly packed bristles. This will coat and separate each lash, giving incredible definition. Try Clarins Instant Definition Mascara (R255).

You want: curl

You need: A spoon-shaped brush. These are designed to lift the lashes in the corners, and create lift. Try Maybelline The Falsies Flared Mascara (R99.95).

You want: volume and definition

You need: A wand with short bristles that you can use to zigzag into the roots, but without clumping at the ends. Try Stila Stay All Day Volumising Waterproof Mascara (R170).

You want: length

You need: A wand with long, sparsely packed bristles. This will help pull the product right out passed the end of the lash, creating length where there isn’t any. Try Maybelline Illegal Lengths Mascara (R99.95).

You want: everyday lashes

You need: A small plastic wand will give you a natural finish, delivering an even application to each lash, while allowing you to reach even the shortest if lashes. Try Smashbox Hyperlash Mascara (R205).
