GLAM Chat with designer Anmari Honiball

With SA Fashion Week set to kick off this Thursday, we chatted to one of the rising stars who will be showing for the first time, Anmari Honiball. Known for her artistic approach to fashion, we chatted to the avant-garde designer about her spring/summer 2013 collection.

GLAMOUR: How do you feel about showing at SAFW?

Anmari: This will be my first time showing at SAFW, so I am determined to make it a good show! Hopefully it will be the first of many to come.

Your items have become known for their incredible draping – can we expect to see some of this in your upcoming collection?

For this collection I used my draping techniques in a slightly different way, in a sort of fragmented manner. I also experimented with cleaner silhouettes.

What else can we look forward to?

An unexpected colour palette, interesting fabric manipulation, and some great shoes from Robyn & Roxanne.

Is there anything specific this collection was inspired by?

The collection was conceptualised around the idea of the life span of insects – especially moths. I drew from those summer days when there are dizzy moths flying around and flickering about the florescent lights. Essentially, that ephemeral fragility is what inspired this collection.

Who and or what are you most inspired by?

Unexpected everyday moments inspire me.

Who is your style icon?

I appreciate people who develop a strong sense of style which enhances their personalities. It makes them appear comfortable with themselves, which is really interesting to me.

What are three things you can’t live without?

Chocolate (and my friends know that this is seriously true), my feather pillow, a pen and paper.

Your favourite item in your wardrobe is…

At the moment it’s a pair of black, draped, curved leg trousers from my a/w 13 ready-to-wear range.

What makes you feel GLAM?

I don’t normally wear makeup, so whenever put on mascara I feel super GLAM.

Anmari will be showing as part of the Lufthansa First Best Collections on Friday 12 April at SAFW.
