5 For Change 2013

Want to spend an elegant night out dressed to impresse – all in aid of a good cause? 5 For Change is a black-tie event that raises awareness and funds for five inspiring social enterprises, changing the way young professionals, entrepreneurs, and other young South African opinion leaders think about social change.

What better way to give back?

As if dressing up, bubbles, delicious eats and good company weren’t enough, you also stand the chance to win some fantastic prizes on the night. They’re all on display on the 5 For Change Facebook page, and among them is a GLAMOUR prize for the best dressed woman: 45-minute back, neck and shoulder massages for two at African Pride Crystal Towers Hotel & Spa plus a designer dress for an evening from  Want Me Wear Me.

This year, the event takes place on 18 May. To find out more, visit

How would you dress to a black-tie dress code?

A black tie function is a special occasion where you don’t ever have to worry about being over-dressed. Wear a floor-length evening gown and take advantage of the dress code to dress to the nines! Your date should wear a black suit and black tie, or a tuxedo with a black bow-tie if he has one.

Keeping in mind that this year’s theme is The Great Gatsby, what do you suggest for a fun, themed outfit that’s still formal?

We say, wear a glam fitted gown and adorn yourself with reams of pearls! A bright red lip, some marabou feathers, art deco jewellery, a (faux) fur stole or T-bar heels would all add to the theme, while still keeping with the formality of the event. ’20s fashion is coming back, so keep an eye out on wantmewearme.co.za for some gorgeous feathered, and fringed, dresses, coming soon!

What are must-have accessories for an elegant event outfit?

Stay away from chunky costume jewellery, and keep your look understated. Rather, focus on one special piece of jewellery – either a bracelet, beautiful drop earrings, or a sparkly necklace depending on the neckline of your dress. Add an elegant pair of heels and you’re good to go!

What should every woman have in her handbag on a night out?

Lipgloss, money, mints, cellphone, and the number of a reputable cab company – drinking and driving is a fashion no-no!

Is matching with your partner – eg getting him a tie to match your dress – a DO or a DON’T?

We say it’s a rather cute DO! To make this old tradition a little bit modern, have him wear a tie which does not match your dress 100%, rather, stick to a similar colour hue for his tie, or even a patterned tie. However, for a black tie event, he should conventionally stick to a black bow-tie, or black tie.

What will you be wearing to 5 For Change?

Either the Nicole Miller “A Night With the Stars” dress, or “It’s a Long Story” available to rent or buy from www.wantmewearme.co.za
