Get your makeup winter ready!

With the mornings getting colder and darker, there is no denying that winter’s icy grip is slowly approaching.

We all know that we have to change our skin care routine in winter, but not many of us change up our makeup. Which is why we’ve got five simple changes that will help you switch-up your makeup routine for winter with minimal effort!

1. It’s Time to switch to a moisturising foundation, or if you can get away with one, a BB cream. The cold drys out our skin faster than you can say “pass the hot chocolate,” so keep the moisture in by using a foundation designed for the job. BB creams won’t cover as well as a foundation, but they will still give the moisturising benefits. If you don’t want to change your foundation, you could try a primer instead. This will create a barrier between your skin and the cold air. We love Smashbox Primer Light, R330, Woolworths.

2. By the same token, if you have oily skin, you’ll need to keep up with the powder. That ‘dewy’ summer look won’t be as flattering in cooler weather – you’ll just look like you have the flu. Look for a mineral powder that won’t clog your pores. We rate Elizabeth Arden’s Pure Finish Mineral Foundation, R285 that comes in six shades.

3. Keep your hairspray close during winter. It may seem strange that winter will both dry your hair-out and make it fuzzy, but even a tiny little bit of moisture will make it frizz. Keep a small can with you for emergency taming. Have a browse in Clicks and Dis-Chem to find one for your hair type.

4. Step away from the bronzer. We know some of you love bronzer like of Jlo or Kim K, but the fact of the matter is that you just look silly wearing it in winter. Admit defeat, and give in to the rosy cheek look. Opting for a pinky blush will give your complexion a boost, whereas bronzer in winter will just make you look a bit grubby. Not at all GLAMOURous. Try The Body Shop All In One Blusher, R120. It gives the most natural glow all skin tones.

5. Leave the lip gloss, and opt for a tinted lip balm instead (this one’s a no-brainer). Gloss can be drying, and your lips will need all the help they can get on the moisture front. Stila’s Colour Balms, R210 each, are the best range of colours we’ve found.
