Are you ready to be the most sophisticated woman at all your festive parties? Then forget mixing glittering shadow with scarlet lippie, or pink blusher with charcoal liner and try minimalist style at its most chic. Lips, eyes, or cheeks - choose your drug and master your trade. Scroll through for our Beauty Ed's top tips!
A slice of liner
There are few things more arresting than a bold, confident sweep of eyeliner: it's graphic, it's elegant and this summer, it's massively on trend.
The modern touch? High shine metals!
Become a pro with liquid liner: it lengthens the eye and gives an unshakably sexy allure. Black is always chic, and always in... but this season high shine, sparkling metals are the beauty equivalent of mixing your prints. Get a steady hand by resting your elbow on a table and sweep the brush up and out, finishing with a cat-eye flick. We used Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Cream Liner in Glam Hazel Eyes and finished with lots of black mascara.
Lipstick that packs a punch
Red lips are the most iconic of beauty looks, instantly conjuring up images of polished screen goddesses. But wear it barefaced with messy hair and suddenly you become edgy, cool and a little bit different.
The modern touch? Strong, punchy and matte!
To contrast your bare face and bed hair, your lipstick should be immaculate, so make friends with red lipliner- we use Almay Ideal Lipliner in Raspberry. Carefully trace the outline of your lip and then colour in the entire surface. Pick a matte shade that suits your skin tone (pale girls look great in coral, medium skin tones love cranberry shades while black girls look fab in burgundy) and pile on at least three layers so you get a really strong hit of pigment. But be warned: although this is definitely a barefaced look, only women with naturally curled and tinted lashes can skip mascara all together. TRY Rimmel Color Showoff Lipstick in Red Fever
Deep blue, green, black or brown shadows equal seriously sultry lids. Here's how to make beautiful eyes at everyone in the room.
The modern touch? Let it cake!
Start by prepping the eyelid with a primer so it doesn't smudge or clump - we use Revlon Vital Radiance Soothing Eye Primer. Then coat the entire surface of your moving lid in one intense colour. Try Dior Impact Colour in Chic Jean. Then, using your finger, smudge it out towards your brow and under your eye for an 'just got out of bed' effect. Finish with lots of mascara and nude lips and cheeks.
Make me blush!
Gorgeously cheeky cheeks dominated the Autumn 2012 runways - and while blusher is often overlooked as the opening act rather than the main event, if you keep the rest of your look slick and understated, it can have a pretty powerful effect.
The modern touch? Hot pink cheeks!
If you've got dark skin, you're in luck because you can pull off bright, 'look at me' cheeks without looking clownish - we love NYX Blush in Desert Rose.
If you've got paler skin, you'll have to go for a less intense colour like Chanel Powder Blush in Pink Explosion, but you can still get that rich, gorgeous flush. Using a fan brush, smile and put the highest concentration of colour just outside the fattest part of the cheeks - you don't want too much blush near the nose or temples because that instantly looks OTT. Finish with a slick pony, lip balm and brown mascara.
