British songstress Rita Ora has called Beyoncé ‘Superwoman’ because of how iconic she is and for how she is able to juggle motherhood and her high-flying career.
Rita cited the ‘Halo’ singer as her number one influence and stills thinks that her friendship with Beyoncé is surreal following her catapult into the limelight with her debut single, ‘R.I.P’.
Signed to music label Roc Nation – which is run by Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z – Rita said, “One minute I’m singing Destiny’s Child’s ‘Say My Name’ in my dad’s pub and the next I’m sitting here asking Beyoncé if she thinks this song is right for my album! The first time I met her I was so nervous. I hugged her and told her she was my inspiration. She’s a superwoman with a career and a family. I hope one day I can do the same – baby in one arm, microphone in the other. Beyoncé was, and she still is, such an inspiration. She’s been in the game for so long you think she’s older but she’s only 30.”
Rita, 21, has also been in the studio with Kanye West, and although he didn’t produce any tracks on her debut album, ‘Ora’, he introduced her to plenty of new things.
She added, “Kanye is Kanye so yes, I was a little ‘Wow!’. But I’ve learned so much from being in the studio with him. Even though there aren’t any Kanye songs on the album, it’s been an experience. He introduced me to Motown and so many great records.”
And with a growing list of celeb friends and mentors, it looks like the only way is up for Ms Ora!
