Get the look!

As the fashion weeks roll by, we’ve seen some incredible hairstyles, but most of them are just not practical for everyday wear. We did however spot an old favourite, which had us cheering from the sidelines.

That’s right – the French Twist is back! And thankfully this is a trend we’re happy so see again and again! It’s easy, quick, versatile and hides dirty hair – what’s not to love?

If your hair is clean, apply a thickening lotion or mousse (try Lee Stafford Double Blow Volumizing Mousse, R94.99 from Clicks), and rough dry.  If your hair is a little dirty, apply some dry shampoo like Batiste, R54.95, which we love because it comes in 5 ‘flavours’ (you’ll also find this at Clicks), to your roots to create volume, and banish some of the excess oil. Once your hair is nearly dry, gently tease around the crown.

The next step is where this style’s versatility comes in – you can either pull it back tightly to create a pristine, sleek finish; muss it up to a disheveled nest; or sweep it into a deep parting to create a heavy, sweeping fringe (we spotted this at Thakoon at NYFW).

Pull all the hair back, and twist-in on itself until it forms a roll. Use long bobby pins to secure. The best way to do this is to sweep the pin of the direction of the twist, once at the edge of the twist, angle the pin down to your scalp, and then tuck it back under the twist against your head. How neatly you do this depends on the look you’re going for. A neat look will take a few pins to keep it in place.

Finish the twist with a generous spritzing of hairspray to keep it all in place!
