Marc Jacobs is tipped for Dior

The Louis Vuitton designer has been hotly tipped to replace disgraced John Galliano as creative director of the fashion house and Carine Roitfeld, the former French Vogue editor, thinks he is the right man for the job and is “excited” to see what he could do there.

She said: “Marc is used to working for a big brand and he’s been working at LVMH for 12 years now. He understands the company, how it works and how to work with them. He’s been given the shoulders to do the Dior job already. He’s never done couture though, so I’d be really excited to see him do couture for Dior. He’s a very smart person. If Marc gets the job, I won’t miss a single show.”

Carine believes that whoever takes over at Dior may find the position bittersweet because there has been so much debate about the job.

She told “It’s hard because there have been so many names floating around now, that they might know that they weren’t the first choice.”

Despite having Carine’s backing, Marc recently insisted he has no desire to leave Louis Vuitton.

Speaking at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, he said: “I could never do this anywhere else. It’s not just a Paris thing – Vuitton allows me. It’s really, really something I feel particularly proud of and am grateful to the team for. We’ve all worked really hard and gone through a lot to get this to where it is now and we’re starting to see results.”
