Braided beauty

We loved the contrast of the sharp centre partings and the romantic, yet structured Heidi-inspired braids at the recent Valentino show in Paris. With summer around the corner it’s a great way to keep your hair looking fabulous as well as keep it off your face.

Want to recreate the look? We got the lowdown from Shelene Shaer, stylist and owner of Tanaz Hair Body and Nails (011 786 2976). ‘It’s quite difficult to do on yourself so get a friend involved,’ she says.

1 – First things first.‘Divide your hair into a centre parting and braid from the centre parting towards your ear and then down the nape of your neck.’

2 – Extra hands.‘Work your braid backwards, using clips (or your friends helping hands) to keep the shape.’

3 – All together now.“Once in the nape, get your friend to join the braid from the right and left to make one braid and roll into a bun.’

4 – Flying solo?‘Braid both sections to the end and then work the two into a braided bun.’

5 – Make a date– whether it’s with friends at the beach or with your man. This is one way to rock a bun this summer!
