Roberto Cavalli

Words: Emma van Braningen

Those who thought that the Gucci show boasted a lot of gold had to think again when they saw what Cavalli had on offer. This collection dripped gold from the sequined, short, drop-waisted dresses to the richly embellished jackets. Statuesque outfits softened as pleats revealed flower-printed chiffon, which was a theme carried throughout the collection. Flapper dresses shimmied down the runway with pleats lined by black sequins.

The collection moved on to trendy animal print with tiger stripes and leopard spots, and then had a tropical revival with bright yellow, azure and psychedelics. The show was bling to the very last sequin and sometimes bordered on gaudy, but my oh my, was it spectacular!
