Ultra violet

Shades of purple, lilac and plum are right on trend for the new season and the good news is that they flatter everyone. If you have green eyes, most purple tones will suit you wonderfully, while blue-based hues enhance brown and hazel eyes. Make blue peepers pop with bronze and brown-toned shades of lavender.

Eyes right To get the lilac-lined look shown at Versace, simply sweep Disco Professional Eye/Lip Liner in Lilac along your top lash line and pile on black mascara. Feeling adventurous? Take inspiration from the Dior runway and rim your eyes with Dior Ultra-Smooth High Impact Eyeshadow in Purple Show, extending the colour to just below your brows.

Gather lavenders The frosted lip is back! Get the look with a metallic purple like Carlo di Roma Black Label Lipstick in No 48 and top up with Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 in Mystic Preview. Not a fan of frosting? Opt for a creamy hue. We love the lavender lips and bare skin combo at Vena Cava. TRY Revlon Illuminance All-over Palette in Passion Fusion.

Purple pro

DO try bright hues if you have dark skin; lighter if you’re fair.

DON’T choose shades with red or pink undertones unless you’re going for the I-haven’t-slept-in-days look.

DO keep your application light – think a sheer wash of colour or a fuss-free sweep of liner.

DON’T forget blusher. A peach tone prevents you from looking washed-out.

DO play with dark purple lips.

Spotted! Celebs working purple Swap your charcoal smoky eye for plum shadow like Laila Ali. TRY Red Earth Illusion Lights Beauty Pro Eyeshadow in Wild Orchid. Prefer something softer? Go for a lavender hue like Taraji P Henson. Make green eyes the focus with lilac-rimmed lids like Hayden Panettiere. TRY Jane Iredale 24-Karat Gold Dust in Lilac. Or vamp it up with a burgundy lip like Megan Fox.

TIP To avoid chips, remove excess oil with a swipe of polish remover before applying nail polish.
